When we were planning our trip to Italy and to Florence, I spent a lot of time trying to decide where we would stay. I searched the TripAdvisor website and came across the Hotel David. So many people gave glowing reviews of the place that I decided to book the hotel based on that. We were not disappointed.

The hotel is across the Arno River from the Uffizi Gallery. The area is residential and is a chance to get away from the large tourist crowds at Pallazo Vecchio and the Duomo.

Hotel David

The hotel is in a nice location, although it is not a short walk to the downtown area. You will need to take a bus and ride across the Arno River to get to the places you want to see. The bus stop is just outside the hotel. One of the staff members walked outside with us and showed us the pickup point. They even sold us the bus tickets we needed! So convenient!

Hotel David lobby

We were given a main floor room just off the lobby area. It was very large and I think it was intended for 4 people. Since there were only two of us, we enjoyed a lot of space and comfort. The bathroom was fine and we felt like we had room to breathe. The hotel seemed old, but not at all run down, and very homey. I understand that it was formally a 19th Century Villa. The staff was very courteous and always tried to help us, not waiting to be asked but offering their services. I liked that since it is hard to find attentive service at many hotels.

Lounge area Hotel David

Hotel David has truly earned their reputation as #2. They had reasonable rates (125 Euros, I believe) and they offered free wifi and a free happy hour that everyone raved about. We missed it both times due to being out-and-about. They also offer a free phone call to anywhere in the world so you can call home and say hello. Very nice touches, I must say. If you are going to be in Florence, book rooms at Hotel David. You’ll be guaranteed a good experience and a reasonable price.
